Privacy Policy
Last updated September 10, 2026
MathAloud is a calculator for typed and spoken calculations. This policy explains the limited data MathAloud handles and the choices available to you.
Data MathAloud handles
- Voice input. Apple’s on-device speech recognition provides live text. Only after you choose Allow & Continue, MathAloud sends short voice recordings and recognized text over HTTPS to its gateway hosted by Google Cloud. The gateway sends audio to Groq (GroqCloud), a third-party AI service, for speech recognition. The recognized text is used to check transcription and complete your calculation. The current release does not send your calculation history to an AI service.
- Calculation history. Your calculations are stored on your device.
- Subscriptions and service security. Apple handles purchases and payment details. MathAloud verifies signed purchase information and stores subscription status, hashed transaction and installation identifiers, voice-use counters, session identifiers, and timestamps in Google Cloud Firestore to provide your plan and prevent abuse. These records do not contain audio or calculation text. MathAloud does not receive your card details. Standard connection and request metadata may be processed to operate and secure the service.
- Currency rates. Currency conversion requests send selected currency codes and standard connection data to Frankfurter, not your calculation history.
- Diagnostics. The current release does not send product analytics. If this changes, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosure will be updated before collection begins.
How data is used
MathAloud uses data to provide calculations, recognize voice input, supply current currency rates, provide and restore your subscription or voice allowance, maintain security, and respond to support requests. We do not sell voice data or use it for advertising.
Groq and Google Cloud process data under data-processing terms requiring confidentiality, security, limited processing purposes, and protection consistent with this policy and applicable law. MathAloud requires third parties receiving personal data to provide the same or equal protection described in this policy. See Groq’s Data Processing Addendum and Google Cloud’s Data Processing Addendum.
Retention and deletion
- MathAloud’s gateway processes audio and recognized text in memory without saving them to its application logs or database.
- Groq does not retain inference inputs or outputs by default, but may retain them for up to 30 days for service reliability or abuse investigations, or longer if legally required. Groq also retains usage metadata. See Groq’s data handling and retention. This policy does not claim that Groq’s optional zero-data-retention setting is enabled.
- Calculation history remains on your device until you delete a calculation or remove the app.
- Service records are kept as needed to provide and restore your plan, enforce voice allowances, maintain security, and meet legal obligations. Contact us for deletion requests; deleting the app does not automatically erase server-side service records. We may need to retain records required for security or legal obligations.
Your choices
You can decline cloud processing and use the keyboard calculator without sharing voice data or creating a MathAloud account. No voice data is uploaded before you allow cloud processing. In MathAloud Settings, you can turn off cloud voice processing and open system voice permissions. Turning cloud processing back on asks for your permission again. You can delete calculations in Recent. Avoid speaking sensitive information you do not want processed by these providers. You may contact MathAloud to ask a privacy question or request help exercising rights available in your region.
Data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. MathAloud and its service providers apply the safeguards required for those transfers, including applicable contractual data-protection terms.
Children
MathAloud is a general-audience utility and is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact MathAloud so it can be reviewed and deleted when required.
